On 4 September 2021 Bo de Vries, Community Lead at Guerrilla Games posted a blog on the PlayStation website addressing concerns regarding the Playstation 4 and 5 versions of the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West title, detailing a free upgrade to the Playstation 5 version.
Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.

So far this remains true, however, it seems Sony has taken steps to nudge consumers to pay $15 more for the title. Here’s how:
- On PlayStation 4, users can purchase Horizion Forbidden West (PS4) for $109 (AUD).
- This version includes a free upgrade as detailed in the aformentioned blog post.
- This version includes a free upgrade as detailed in the aformentioned blog post.
- On PlayStation 5, users can only purchase Horizon Forbidden West (PS4/PS5) for $124 (AUD).
- Users on PS5 no longer have the choice to purchase the lower priced PS4 varient, which to my understanding was previously an option.
- Consumers miss out on a potential saving of $15 (AUD).
- On the PlayStation Web Store, users are shown the Horizion Forbidden West (PS4/PS5) for $124 (AUD).
- Users can scroll down and get the same game for $15 (AUD) less.
So, if you’ve got a PS5 we recommend ordering the game either online here: Horizon Forbidden Westâ„¢ (playstation.com). Alternately, if you have a PS4 at home you can pick it up there for $15 less!
