It’ll cost you $539.00 (AUD) – and all you really get is a new OLED screen, oh and a wired ethernet port in the dock. So it’s a little disappointing to some, given that rumours pointed to a 4K “switch pro” sort of upgrade.

Nintendo has dashed those rumours and hopes with the announcement of the Nintendo Switch OLED edition, which sports a new 7″ OLED screen, which in all honesty will provide for a great picture.

That said, I’m not confident that an OLED screen will do well in the handheld market, given its predisposition to low brightness. But time and real-world gameplay will tell.

Nintendo is also touting “enhanced audio” but has been light on details for what this means. We’ll post more as soon as we know.

It is safe to say Nintendo will have its work cut out for it, given that Valve has just announced the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck is coming in at a similar price point and way more bang for the buck.
